What's all this about?
This is Skoda's forthcoming rally car, shown here in concept form as the Fabia R 5. It got its first public airing at the Essen Motor Show, running in Germany from until December 7.
Have we got any specification details?
As this is just a concept for now, we know what certain bits of the R 5 will be only thanks to FIA regulations. It will have a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, a five-speed sequential gearbox, MacPherson strut suspension and a weight of at least 1,230kg.
Does it replace the Fabia Super 2000?
Ooh, you know your motorsport, don't you? Yes, this is the Super's successor and the hope is the R 5 will be as successful a competition car as the S2000; rumour has it a number of customer racing teams have already registered a strong interest in the R 5, which is due to be homologated in mid-2015.
Is it just the Fabia rally car on Skoda's stand at Essen?
Nope, also at Essen will be the Fabia Estate, the Octavia vRS, Monte Carlo special editions of the Rapid Spaceback, Yeti and Citigo, and three show cars - the Yeti Xtreme, the CitiJet and the Rapid Spaceback Red & Grey Collection.
