Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister for State V.Narayanasamy on Sunday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister N. Rangasamy in order to pave the way for conduct of an impartial probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) into the spate of recent murders.
Addressing reporters here, Mr. Narayanasamy charged the ruling All India NR Congress (AINRC) government with being responsible for “the total collapse of law and order situation.”
Tracing the series of murders that occurred in the recent past, he pointed out that Congress functionary Manhoran was found murdered a year ago in Poornamkuppam and his brother Kamaraj was also murdered recently.
Stating that an 18-year-old boy was found murdered a year ago and the body was floating in the Ossudu lake, Mr. Narayansamy said that after that a ruling party functionary ‘Nondi’ Arumugam, who was allegedly involved in the murder of boy, was killed. Again Velayudham, who was cited accused in Nondi Arumugam murder case was eliminated in Thattanchavadi.
“All these murders occurred in broad daylight. The Rangasamy government as well as the Puducherry police seem to have not taken any constructive action in the regard.
Alleging that three days ahead of murder, Velayudham was closeted with Chief Minister in his chamber, he also said, “There was a clear connection between the incidents. Mr. Rangasamy might be having personal knowledge of them. Truth will come out if the role of Chief Minister Mr. Rangasamy is investigated and only a probe by CBI will bring out truth. Hence he should step down.”
Stating that people’s confidence was rattled over the incidents, Mr. Narayanasamy said he had written to Lieutenant Governor A.K.Singh to order CBI probe into three cases. The party would also approach the Madras High Court for an order if necessary.
He claimed that there was no protection to lives of former ministers, former elected representatives and even common public in the present regime.
Criticises Modi governmentAssailing the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic government for proceeding towards reducing subsidies, he said the Central government crippled the erstwhile United Progress Alliance (UPA) government ‘s flagship programme- Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
Now the programme is being implemented only in 200 districts while it was altogether suspended in the Union Territory.
Stating that Karnataka’s move to construct two dams across the Cauvery river is not an acceptable one, Mr. Narayanasamy said the Union Territory Government failed to assert its own rights on river water and also failed to get its due share of water from Tamil Nadu.
