PUNE: A 32-year-old teacher, who was arrested by the Nigdi police on Saturday for allegedly raping a 20-year-old student and molesting one of her friends, was produced before the court on Sunday and remanded in police custody till December 5.
The suspect also allegedly molested another student under similar pretext.
The teacher has been identified as Kishore Ramesh Lipare of Ganganagar in Akurdi.
He has been charged under sections 376 (rape) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code.
The Nigdi police said the complainant wanted to appear for a competitive exam to join police force. "Around one-and-a-half-year ago, Lipare took the student into confidence by promising her that he would help her prepare for the examination. He later called the student to his home and raped her," said R P Bobade, assistant inspector of the Nigdi police station.
Bobade said Lipare then promised to marry her and took her to lodges in Alandi and Pimpri where he raped her repeatedly.
The complainant said Lipare also approached a friend of hers, who wanted to appear for the SET-NET examination, and molested her. "Lipare called her friend to his home and molested her," Bobade said.
The incident came into light after the girl approached a social organization on Saturday, which in turn, took her to the police station and lodged a complaint.
"We have arrested Lipare. We are investigating further," Bobade said.
