NMC employee jumps to death at office
NAGPUR:An upper division clerk of water works department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) committed suicide at the civic body’s new administrative building near Vidhan Bhavan on Saturday. Pundlik Supare, handling the work of manual correspondence, had been working at NMC for around two-and-a-half decades. Police are trying to ascertain the cause of his drastic decision as he did not leave behind a suicide note.
NMC staffers were left shell-shocked after Supare ended life by jumping off the parapet of the terrace of the new seven-floor building. Sources stated that Supare, who worked at Dharampeth’s water works office, was a frequent visitor at NMC office to bring and take back correspondence of different departments.
Eyewitness said that Supare started climbing the terrace after parking his two-wheeler, ignoring the security guards’ attempt to attract his attention. Shortly after, he jumped to his death.
Cops from Sadar police rushed to the place before shifting Supare to Mayo hospital where he was declared dead. Police found Rs 2,700 cash in his pocket apart from a small diary.
Family sources claimed that Supare had no problem at home front. His elder daughter Neha was pursuing her engineering while son Shubham is a polytechnic student. Supare’s family members stated that he had even participated in a get-together hosted by a close relative a couple of days ago. “There was no tension on his face or body language from which we could had a clue,” said a close family member. Supare, a religious man, learnt to have visited temple as usual before leaving for office. He also had an active social life.

It was learnt that Supare was earlier assigned work of two desks but later reverted to one. He had expressed disappointment for having been assigned dual responsibilities of two desks. Family members too stated that official work pressure could have led to his suicide.
NMC commissioner Shyam Wardhane stated that he is now keen to take adequate measures to ensure that such incidents are not repeated. Sadar police have registered the case as accidental death.
