MNS gives BMC two months to sort issue
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief to conclude the issue of discrimination against property buyers on the basis of food preferences in the next two months.

MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande had mooted the proposal to stop such discrimination on November 14. and it was passed in the civic general body meeting with majority. “Some developers sell property to members of only certain communities, which are largely vegetarian. Many flat owners follow this policy even while renting out the property. There should be rules to prevent developers from making such discrimination,” Deshpande said.

“There was tremendous pressure on me to withdraw the proposal from various departments of BMC and also from the various sections of society,” Deshpande said. “The commissioner, under similar circumstances, should not bow down to the pressure,” he added.

The BMC, in its general body meeting on Thursday, had passed the resolution making it compulsory for builders to sell flats irrespective of buyers’ religious beliefs or food habits. Except for BJP, corporators across party lines, including Shiv Sena, had supported the proposal. It has now been sent to the civic chief for final go-ahead.
