Rajesh Pratap Singh, one of India’s most well-known contemporary designers, has always worked towards adapting traditional techniques into contemporary forms.
From being appointed the first Woolmark Ambassador of India in January 2013 to showcasing his work at international fashion weeks, Rajesh has been one of the most toasted Indian designers internationally. Adding another achievement to his credit, Rajesh will now be showcasing some of his creations at an exhibition titled ‘The Fabric of India’ at The Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

The Fabric of India is the first extensive exhibition at the V&A museum that explores the rich and captivating world of handmade textiles from India. Rajesh’s pieces are now a part of their permanent textile archive. The exhibition, which will be held from from September 26, 2015 to January 10, 2016, will showcase two jackets by Rajesh - The Gamchcha jacket and the Ajrakh Jacket.
The sophisticated Ajrakh jacket is the quintessence of the meld of hand-making skills with technology. He has recreated the traditional Ajrakh print by subtly integrating floral repeats as depictions of human skull imagery. The process of Ajrakh is long and time consuming and takes up to 30 steps to complete.
The opulent gamchcha jacket is a pure depiction of intricately woven handloom silk linen bringing together finesse in technique, design and craftsmanship symbolizing the Indian heritage.
