GURGAON/DELHI: The teacher accused of humiliating a 13-year-old boy, who tried to commit suicide in his school in Faridabad, was questioned by district education officer Rajiv Arora and other government officials on Thursday. The officials also found that the school didn’t have a proper medical kit.
Arora also sought a report on how the boy was able to carry petrol into school, in a soft drink bottle that he had kept in his bag, sneak into the toilet after the morning assembly and set himself on fire.
The boy was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi with 45% burns. He also sought a report on the classroom incident involving the teacher and the boy that his family alleges had left him feeling humiliated.
The teacher told Arora she did not harass the boy, but had pulled him up for not bringing his books to school. Shesaid that he wasn’t the only one to be admonished and she had put remarks in the diaries of all students who had not brought their books on November 24.
Citing the lack of a medical kit, the team expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in primary treatment given to the boy.
The doctors refused to comment on the boy’s health. “He is talking bit. Today, he asked for water and milk,” his elder brother said.
