Restaurant Review: District 6 Pub
Located near Hotel Sheraton, District 6 is one of the newest micro-breweries to ‘hop’ onto the bandwagon and it does a fairly good job of trying to stay different.
Sporting an industrial look with open air ducts and refractory bricks, District 6 revolves around the concept of six districts with six different food and beverage menu sections. The seating is well spaced, giving ample room for conversations over beer.
The equipment takes the main stage with two huge, beautiful-looking brass beer tanks as the focal point. They promise some interesting German beers being brewed by their fourth generation brew-master with ingredients imported from Germany.
Served in specialized glassware, the two worth mentioning are malty ‘Guru’ and the light and fruity ‘Chief’. An unusual cocktail is the Namkin Rum, which has Bacardi Limon, star fruit and desi chaat masala.
The food menu is divided into six sections, each offering a variety of cuisine ranging from Bavarian Bratwurst to Wraps and Japanese Yakitori to Mangalorean-style dishes.
Start your a meal here with Prawn Chilli Butter Garlic served with crispy rice crackers — the prawns are fresh and juicy, something that’s hard to come by in Bengaluru. Next up, order Chicken and Leek Yakitori and Sichimi Spiced Crispy Corn — the chicken yakitori is delectable and is served with warm soy mirin and the corn is a perfect accompaniment for the beer. The German pork sausages are a delight, with a fine mixture of fat and meat and a casing that split with a crack. They are served with braised cabbage and potatoes, just the way they should be. The pork ribs here are not very great, but do try their Mangalore-style whole Crab Ghee Roast. The crabs are extremely fresh and actually sweet to taste. The masala is not overpowering and allows the crabs to be the star of the dish.

End your meal with their Chocolate Fondant Cake — a perfect finish to a perfect evening!
Plus and minus
They take their beers seriously, reading the menu with their beer styles is an education and beer aficionados should make the trek to this place. In good German tradition they serve the beer in two litres, five litres and 10 litres quantities.
