Konkona plays Kadambari Debi in Suman Ghosh’s film

Even as she is doing Hindi films like Alankrita Srivastav’s Lipstick Waale Sapne and Meghna Gulzar’s Talwar, Konkona Sen Sharma is balancing her acting career with a good dose of Bengali films too. She is playing the title role in Suman Ghosh’s Kadambari. The film is in its last leg of shoot and Sen Sharma is very excited about the project. “It’s a biopic on Kadambari Debi who was Rabindranath Tagore’s sister-in-law — his elder brother Jyotirindranath Tagore’s wife. Tagore shared a good bond with his sister-in-law. In fact, there was a lot of talk regarding the relationship they shared as Kadambari committed suicide soon after his wedding. Parambrata Chatterjee is playing Tagore and I think he’s very well suited for the part,” says Sen Sharma.
The actress also talks about Suman Mukhopadhyay’s Shesher Kabita, which means the last poem. Set in pre-independence India, the film is based on a popular Bengali novel by Tagore. Premiered at the Dubai Film Festival in December 2013, it is yet to release in India. Sen Sharma plays a woman who is jealous and competitive in nature. Though it is based on Tagore’s classic, Shesher… is in many ways a modern romance.
“Labanya, my character, is a much loved character from Bengali fiction. The film was screened in Dubai, but is yet to release in India,” says the actress adding that besides Saibal Mitra’s Byomkesh Bakshi, there is Shajarur Kanta which has, as her co-star, Indraneil Sengupta. She plays the protagonist Deepa, who is part of a theatre group. “Only the dubbing of the film is left,” she concludes.
