Munger: Munger police have succeeded in demolishing five mini gun factories being run under the patronage of Maoists in the dense forest on Paisra hilltop under Dharhara police station of the district on Thursday after continuous raids during the last 24 hours on the main hideouts of the Maoists under Dharhara and Bariarpur police stations.
Briefing newsmen, Munger SP Varun Kumar Sinha and ASP Sanjay Singh said huge quantities of firearms and equipment were seized by the police in two separate cases including one under Dharhara police station where five mini gun factories were unearthed on Paisra hilltop and one at village Taufir under Munger Mufassil police station.
The SP said 20 complete pistols and sixers, about 100 magazines,12 base machines,12 drilling machines, spring wires used in triggers, about two dozen razors, screw- drivers, hexa blades and steel plates were seized by the police.
The SP said on a tip-off at a joint meeting of SPs of Munger, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Begusarai and Khagaria districts at Jamui district headquarters on Tuesday addressed by the DIG, CRPF, eastern zone, the police constituted a guerilla raid party with the co-operation of CRPF, STF, SAP and district police force and succeeded in demolishing their arsenals.
The SP said finding the police party approaching their base point, many Maoists managed to escape carrying complete firearms in a large number leaving their food stuff and utensils behind. However, eight skilled workers engaged in manufacturing the firearms including Md Anish, Md Iznamul Haque, Md Mahtab Alam,, Md Wasim and Md Ali Azam were arrested at the site, the SP said.
The SP said three full units of STF comprising 99 jawans, one company of CRPF comprising 100 jawans and 30 district police led by Navin Kumar, ASP (operations), Raj Kumar Raj, deputy commander, CRPF (131), Alok, DSP,STF besides Shampur SHO Rakesh Kumar, JSI Kaushal Kumar were engaged in the guerilla operation against the Maoists. He said in another case, one mini gun factory was unearthed at village Taufir under Mufassil police station and five complete pistols were seized and five persons were arrested at the site.
The SP said the arrested persons confessed their involvement in manufacturing of firearms under the direct supervision of Maoists.
Police will now inquire whether the arms manufactured under their supervision were supplied to their counterparts in other states or districts, he said.
