MailTrack, a startup has been providing the read receipt feature for Gmail for quite some time now. It provides a free add-on for Chrome, that lets you know when your mails are being viewed.

Getting the the double-check feature in your Gmail is simple. You just have to install the Mailtrack Chrome Extension and add it to your Gmail account.

When you send any mail, it displays two check marks against your sent mail. The first tick turns green when your email is delivered and then the second tick turns green, when the mail is opened for the first time. If you want to know further, just hover your mouse over the double-checks  - you can also see the time and date, your messages got opened and also the device and browser used. This works with multiple Gmail accounts as well.

However, if you are not sure on the privacy part, MailTrackit claims that it does not access the content of your messages, apart from the sender and recipient addresses, the subject of your email and the links included in it.
