Carnatic music festival of the Sangeetha Parishath, Mangaluru, beginning Thursday, will feature child prodigy Ramana Balachandran, vocalists Ranjani and Gayathri duo from Chennai, renowned vocalist R.K. Padmanabha, and Kunnakudi Balamuralikrishna from Chennai.
The festival is organised in association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Mangalore University. It will begin at Ravindra Kalabhavan, University College, with the concert by Shraddha Kote of Belthangady, who won the first prize at a junior-level competition organised by the Parishath earlier. It will be followed by formal inauguration and vocal recital by R.K. Padmanabha at 6 p.m.
The next day’s programme will begin with a vocal concert at 4 p.m. by Deeksha Devesh of the city who bagged the first prize at a senior-level music competition held earlier. After this two-hour event, there will be a concert by Kunnakudi Balamuralikrishna from Chennai, who has won appreciation for various performances.
On Saturday, the much-talked about Master Balachandran will hit the stage at 4 p.m. and entertain the audience for two hours. It will be followed by a vocal rendition by Koliladi R. Kala from Mysore at 6 p.m.
Sunday specialThe musical journey on Sunday will begin at 10 a.m. at Karnataka Bank Auditorium, Kodialbial, with renditions from vocalist duo Ranjani and Gayathri from Chennai. At 2 p.m. there will be a presentation ‘Raga-Jnana-Saurabha’ by Vid. Madhur P. Balasubrahmanya of Udupi. The event at this venue will come to an end with a violin duet by Sindhu Suchethan and H.M. Smitha at 5.30 p.m.
During the valedictory event, M. Narayana, senior vocalist from Dakshina Kannada will be felicitated.
