KOLKATA: The position of the coach in the Indian senior national football team has been lying vacant for almost a month after Dutch coach Wim Koevermans refused to extend his contract that expired at the end of October.
The names of a few coaches, including two currently involved with Indian Super League franchises, are doing rounds as Koevermans' possible successor.
Former United SC coach Eelco Schattorie has also thrown his hat in the ring while reports indicate that former East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan and current NorthEast United FC coach Ricki Herbert are also interested.
It has also been learnt that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has also received resumes of several top coaches from other parts of the globe who are keen to take over the Indian team's reins.
Among them is former Argentina attacking midfielder Miguel Ángel Brindisi, who played alongside legend Diego Maradona at Boca Juniors in 1981-82 season and also represented the country in the 1974 World Cup. The 64-year old is an experienced customer having coached at various top clubs like Espanyol, Independiente and Ecuadorian club Barcelona SC, winning titles in Ecuador, Guatemala and Argentina.
Former Switzerland national team coach Rolf Fringer is also reportedly interested in taking up the job.
The Austrian coach has also been at the helm of clubs like VfB Stuttgart, Grasshopper Club Zürich, PAOK FC and FC Zürich.
