Pakistan offspinner Saeed Ajmal reprimanded

Pakistan offspinner Saeed Ajmal has been reprimanded for insulting an umpire during the second Test against South Africa.

Dubai: Pakistan offspinner Saeed Ajmal has been reprimanded for insulting an umpire during the second Test against South Africa.

The ICC says in a statement on Saturday that Ajmal pleaded guilty to a Level 1 breach that relates to "using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an international match."

Ajmal ridiculed the umpire during the third day's play on Friday when Morne Morkel was clearly caught in the slips, but the offspinner still repeatedly appealed.

The umpire had turned down Ajmal's caught appeal off the previous delivery, "so the bowler's actions after taking the wicket was considered insulting towards the umpire."

Ajmal admitted his offence at the end of third day's play, meaning match referee David Boon didn't conduct a formal hearing.
