Mass copying in BA exam, 72 caught

SURAT: As many as 72 students including 22 girls were caught for mass copying during the First Year BA exam at Government Arts and Commerce College in Songadh block of Vyara district.
The incident took place on Tuesday when a special squad of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) conducted surprise checking at the college. They recovered hundreds of chits from the students.

The case has been referred to committee for code of conduct of VNSGU. The students face rustication for two or more semesters.
According to the members of the special squad, those caught copying during the exam included 50 boys and 22 girls. Every student was carrying a number of chits, they said, adding that despite being caught red-handed none showed sign of remorse.
Usually the squad staple the chits recovered from students on his or her answer sheet but in the present case because of the bulk of chits they had to pack them in separate envelopes.

"We found more than 30 chits from each of the girls which were hidden under their clothes," said Manisha Panwala, a squad member.
Interestingly, the students who were caught informed the squad members about others. "It was not an extensive checking drive but still we could catch so many students," said Panwala.
Another squad member R M Gulati said, "Surprisingly, they kept them in their pant pockets making it easily visible."
After the matter came to light, VNSGU instructed the college authorities to take steps to prevent such cases during the remaining exams.
