Single Mother’s Sacrifice Pays Off

A single mother’s sacrifice in sending her second eldest daughter to secondary education finally paid off yesterday.
Tavaita Ranadi’s daughter, Seruvatu Raidoka, 19, the second eldest of four children won the Year 13 Home Economics subject prize yesterday.

She also won the Culture prize, the Best All Rounder student and Adi Cakobau School’s Award for Excellence during the school’s prizegiving at Sawani.

“I am a proud mother today, I was not expecting her to win four awards because I only knew about the subject and the culture prize,” Ms Ranadi said.

She has been looking after her four children alone after separating from her husband 11 years ago.
Seruvatu, a science student, dedicated her achievements to her mother whom she says has been the most courageous and strongest person behind her success.

The Naseivou, Waidina, Naitasiri native hopes to join the Fiji National University College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences next year.
