NOIDA: Burglars broke into a doctor's house in Noida's upscale Sector 15A, a gated colony, late on Tuesday night and decamped with cash and jewelry worth Rs one crore while the owner of the house and her two children were fast asleep.
Sarita Gupta informed the police about the burglary on Wednesday morning, after she got up and found her house ransacked.
Sarita, her son, Sanchit, and her daughter, Saumya, were sleeping in three separate rooms when the burglary took place.
A senior police official said as soon as the incident was reported, a team, including forensic experts, was sent to the crime scene.
"Gupta has lodged a complaint saying that a pair of diamond bangles, six pairs of gold bangles, $500 in cash, one camera, two gold rings, six pairs of silver bracelets and some other jewelry items worth over Rs one crore are missing," the official said.
The cops said that the thieves seemed to know exactly where the jewelry and other valuable items were kept, indicating that it could be the handiwork of someone known to the family. "We have questioned the security guards of the society and checked the entry register. We have also accessed the footage of the CCTV cameras installed at the entry and exit points," the official said.
He added: "The guards told us they did not spot any suspicious vehicle entering the society on Tuesday night. We have also done a physical checking of the barbwires placed on the boundary walls of the society to detect any unlawful entry into the society."
According to the police, regular visitors to the victim's house like the domestic help and the car cleaner have been called for questioning. "Some former servants of the victim are also in our radar," the official said.
The incident has raised several questions on Noida's security as Sector 15A is one of the posh sectors in Noida, where several top brass of multinational companies, retired IAS and IPS officers as well as politicians live.
