AHMEDABAD: Days before the annual inspection by the Medical Council of India team state government transferred over 125 professors and assistant professors. They have been transferred to medical colleges in Patan, Himmatnagar, Valsad and Gotri.
These staffers were posted in medical colleges in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Surat. Sources said, that state government does not want to take any chances before the MCI inspection begins.
This time though staffers have been told that they would not be transferred back to mother institutions till vacancies are filled. This has been done to maintain the adequate staff ratio as per the MCI guidelines in these colleges.
Earlier, state government used to transfer the staff to medical colleges where inspection was to take place and after the inspection the staffers were again transferred back to their mother institutes. This time state government has clearly mentioned in the transfer orders that staffers will not be transferred back unless until proper appointments take place. Sources also informed that this time the state government does not want to face any embarrassment during the surprise inspection of the MCI team. Earlier, the respective colleges were informed in advanced by the MCI about the inspection.
Normally, MCI inspection begins in January and continues till March. But, government has already taken corrective measures and transferred the staff in November. Officials said that of the 125 staffers transferred around 50 were from BJ Medical College Ahmedabad and 25 each were from Vadodara, Rajkot and Jamnagar. A senior official of the B J Medical College said, “Of the 150 teaching staffs in BJ Medical college, about one-third have been transferred. Some of them whose name finds mention in the transfer list include some influential people who now are running from pillar to post to stop their transfers.”
