Duncan cites ASU for 'raising the bar' on teacher education

November 26, 2014

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan cited Arizona State University as a school that is "raising the bar" on teacher education, as he unveiled a plan Nov. 25 aimed at strengthening teacher training and better preparing teachers for the classroom.

Duncan said the department is changing required reporting by teacher training programs to focus on outcomes as it works to reach the goal of "putting a great teacher in every classroom."

He was joined in the announcement by Mari Koerner, dean of ASU's Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, who said the college has revamped its teacher program by increasing the rigor and attracting more students.
