Children's Fashion Brand Pippa & Julie Offers The Cutest Dresses For The Holiday Season

This article is more than 9 years old.

'Tis the season to be jolly, but before you fal-lal-lal-lal-la at the holiday party, you need to make sure that your daughter’s ensemble is up to snuff. And since Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah and other winter fêtes are such cheerful and decadent occasions, getting her a dress that makes her feel like the belle of the ball is only fitting. For this, we look to Fran Arazi and her childrenswear line Pippa & Julie.

Created in 1987, the brand is named after Arazi’s daughter, Julie, and her favorite Robert Browning poem, Pippa Passes. As Browning said of the titular character:

“A young, blameless silk-winding girl is wandering innocently through the environs of Asolo, in her mind attributing kindness and virtue to the people she passes.”

This profound sense of whimsicality is definitely evident in the line. With gilded embellishments and floral appliques, each frock imbues an indelible charm. The silhouettes also stick to classic baby doll and princess cuts. Of course, all these qualities are not new to children’s fashion, at least in the historical sense.

Nowadays, the childrenswear market is riddled with zany prints and neon colors, which has little girls looking like the latest pop princess instead of an actual one. So to see a brand that focuses on a fanciful aesthetic is a bit of a rarity—especially one that is solely devoted to making clothes only for youngsters. Other brands like Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren and Burberry make similarly beautiful dresses, but their children’s clothes are only a fraction of their businesses.

Admittedly, Pippa & Julie has flown under the radar in terms of pure name recognition, but it doesn’t mean that you haven’t seen it on the racks of some of the most widely recognized retail stores, including Nordstrom , Bloomingdale’s and Von Maur. Now, with its just re-launched website, it seeks to expand their reach.

“After decades of working to grow and establish our successful wholesale business, we felt there was no better time than now to create the ultimate Pippa & Julie e-commerce destination. It has always been a dream for our family to offer our consumers a strong, authentic online presence. We worked to develop a site we are truly proud of that represents the Pippa & Julie girl and playful aesthetic. We are excited about the future and our plans to continue to expand the business,” says Fran Arazi.
