GUNTUR: A reporter working for a vernacular daily was brutally murdered by unidentified assailants at Chilakaluripet town in Guntur district. KN Sankar, 52, was attacked with iron rods and sticks late on Tuesday night in front of his residence. He died at the government general hospital (GGH) in Guntur in the early hours of Wednesday.
Sankar reportedly filed a series of stories exposing several scams in public distribution system.
He even lodged a complaint with Guntur superintendent of police PHD Ramakrishna seeking action against errant ration dealers in the town.
He reportedly gave the SP a list of dealers who were involved in selling subsidized rice meant for BPL families to rice millers. Subsequently, police launched a special drive to prevent illegal transportation of ration rice from Chilakaluripet.
Police said about six people were involved in the attack. The scribe is survived by wife and a daughter. Inspector Sanjeev Kumar is investigating the case.
Meanwhile, home minister Nimmakayala China Rajappa directed the SP to form a special team to nab the offenders. He promised to do justice to the family of the victim.
