Sandalwood’s new flock of directors are lyricists

Lyricists take a step forward and turn directors
Sandalwood’s new flock of directors are lyricists
They weave magic with words, which, in turn, has become the lifeline of many beautiful songs in Sandalwood. But these days, the glory of being remembered for the lyrics of a song is not enough for lyricists, many of whom are going all out to use their literary skills to write stories and make them into films as well. While lyricist Nagendra Prasad made the transition a while ago, filmmaker Yogaraj Bhat seems to be writing songs more often than making movies.

Here’s a look at the newer additions to this increasing lot...
Arasu Anthare
Famous for his lyrics in films like Manasology and Madarangi, Arasu Anthare makes his debut as director with this week’s Love in Mandya, which has Satish Ninasam and Sindhu Loknath in the lead.
Ghouse Peer
The writer of songs like Pade Pade from Rambo, Ghouse Peer takes on the mantle of director with the Kannada film Sharp Shooter, which has Diganth and Sangeetha Chauhan in the lead.
Chetan
Chetan, whose body of work includes the song Baite Baite from Varadanayaka, turned director this year with the Dhruva Sarja-starrer Bahaddur, which was in the making for nearly two years.
AP Arjun
Today, AP Arjun may be more in the news for the success of his films like Ambari and Addhuri, and the fact that he is directing Challenging Star Darshan in his next, but he too started his filmi career as a lyricist, a talent he continues to use.
