MUMBAI: A 16-year-old schoolboy was run over by a train, near Turbhe station, while crossing the tracks on Tuesday. The Vashi GRP identified the victim as Shaikh Aftab Jakir Hussain.
‘‘The incident took place at 6.30am when Hussain was crossing the tracks to take a short cut to Janata market. The motorman immediately alerted the Turbhe station master, who, in turn, sent an ambulance to the spot.
The victim was rushed to NMMC Hospital but later shifted to J J Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries. A case of accidental death has been registered,’’ said senior inspector Nitin Bobade, Vashi GRP.
Following the incident, locals staged a rail roko that disrupted services for around 25 minutes. The protesters claimed that the incident could have been averted if their long standing demand for a foot overbridge would have been met.
