TV actress Mahhi Vij, who was recently in the city, talks about her break from television and shopping for her house from the Walled City markets.
TV actress Mahhi Vij is certain that the people of Jaipur love her very much. The reason? “Most of the events I do, they’re all held in Jaipur. I think people here love me too much,” she says, laughing and adding, “I come here very often.
A few months ago, when my husband Jay was shooting in Rajasthan, we’d taken a trip to many temples in the state. I’ve also spent a lot of time looking around the local markets in Jaipur, and I saw this one beautiful door with intricate carvings that really stood out.

We’re planning to buy a new house, so I’ve told Jay I want that door from Jaipur for it.” She goes on to share her love for Rajasthani cuisine, and says, “I’m a pakka non-vegetarian, so the food here is a huge plus point for me. I love the laal maans and keema made in Jaipur.”
Mahhi, who shot to fame as Nakusha from Laagi Tujhse Lagan, has been on a break from TV since she won Nach Baliye with her husband, and she says the break will go on for a while. “I started working when I was 16, and I’d always thought that I’d take a break after my wedding. So now that Jay’s also doing very well, and my house is financially handled, it’s not like I have to worry about where the money will come from next month, I can afford to take a break,” she says. So what keeps her busy these days? She says, “Oh, there’s so much to do. I look after my husband’s work. He doesn’t believe in shopping alone, so I go on shopping trips with him. I have three dogs, so taking care of them is a full-time job. It’s not like I’m running after anything. I don’t want to be seen everywhere all the time, and I’m very happy being a housewife. I’ve always wanted to be one.”

And what kind of work is she looking forward to doing on TV? She says, “If a show comes to me that I really want to do, I’ll take it up. But I don’t want to do those shows that wrap up in six months. I want to do something that will take up my heart, soul and time.” A reality show, perhaps? “I’ve done Jhalak and Nach, so both dance shows are done. Bigg Boss isn’t my cup of tea. I love watching it every day, but I don’t think I can be in it,” she says.
