Artist Julian Schnabel forged an impressive career in movies, but the one-time Oscar nominee says he may never direct again.
“As far as making movies, I get a lot of offers,” the “Basquiat” director reveals in the new issue of Man of the World magazine. “But I don’t really know when I’ll make another one, whereas painting is something I feel compelled to do all the time.”
Schnabel adds that he’s become comfortable with being misunderstood as an artist.
“When I was younger, I thought I wanted people to understand me,” he reveals. “As I get older, I don’t think that’s part of the deal any longer. You get the privilege of making the stuff. You don’t necessarily get the privilege of understanding what you did.”
