The Cong leader alleged that the husband of the woman who filed a false complaint was "reported to be linked to RSS''.

ARJUN1 Arjun Modhwadia

Vehemently criticising BJP, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and RSS for taking out rallies and holding demonstrations in connection with a sexual assault case in Rander locality of Surat that proved to be false in police probe, State Congress president Arjun Modhwadia has asked BJP to clarify who was behind the filing of the “false FIR” that resulted in arrest of several innocent persons last week.

Addressing mediapersons here on Wednesday, the Congress leader alleged that the husband of the woman who filed a false complaint was “reported to be linked to RSS” and the woman did so under pressure from her husband. He said that it was one of the several strategies adopted by the Sangh Parivar to polarise the voters along religious lines as municipal and local bodies elections at several districts in the state were drawing near.

Stating that BJP, VHP and RSS took an active part in the rallies, he said that the agitation in Surat created an undercurrent of tension all over the state as the woman had alleged that she was sexually assaulted by over 50 persons for the last six months and she had not disclosed it as the accused persons had threatened to kill her, her husband and children.

But the police probe, Modhwadia said, found the allegations as false and fabricated under pressure from her husband who suspected her character. The some places identified by the woman where she alleged she was raped by the accused persons, were highly busy locations in the city and were under close circuit camera observation round the clock. He said that if the woman had been raped, it would have been recorded in the camera.

Modhwadia said that while Sangh Parivar organised agitation in this case, it remained completely silent in real cases of rape in the state. He vehemently criticised state chief minister Anandiben Patel and her ministers for maintaining stoic silence on increasing rape cases in the state.

Festive offer

Stating that more than one case of rape was reported every day in the state, he said that the rape cases which were recorded to be 413 in 2008-09 had gone up to 416, 421, 428 and 555 in 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13, respectively. So a total of 2233 rape cases took place in the last five years but the Sangh Parivar did not raise its voice in any of these incidents, many of which happened to be gangrape incidents.
