Two killed in Mangaluru bus-truck collision

Two persons were killed on the spot and seven other were injured, one critically, after a fish laden mini truck collided with a private mini bus at Nanthoor Circle at 8am on Wednesday.

MANGALURU: Two persons were killed on the spot and seven other were injured, one critically, after a fish laden mini truck collided with a private mini bus at Nanthoor Circle at 8am on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Umanath (19), hailing from Moodbidri was a student of Karnataka Polytechnic and Ganesh, 26, a daily wage earner from Gurupur.
The injured were identified as Karthik, Umesh, Parveen and Harold D’soua.
Harold is in a critical condition and has sustained severe injuries on his abdomen area.
Police said rash and negligent driving by the truck driver caused the accident. The force of the impact was such that the bus and trucks overturned. The bus was on its way to the city from Moodbidri and the truck was plying from Udupi side towards Kerala. The truck driver sustained leg injuries.
The accident left the motorists at the busy junction stranded for more than 30 minutes and even after the vehicles were removed using cranes, traffic moved at snail’s pace for another 90 minutes.
Mangalore East have registered the case.
