Interim bail granted to Former Lilavati trustee Kishore Mehta

Lilavati Hospital trustee Charu Mehta's husband Kishore Mehta, a diamond merchant, was granted interim bail by Esplanade court on Wednesday after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an old case related to foreign exchange laws.

MUMBAI: Lilavati Hospital trustee Charu Mehta's husband Kishore Mehta, a diamond merchant, was granted interim bail by Esplanade court on Wednesday after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an old case related to foreign exchange laws.
Mehta,76, the officers said had a non bailable warrant against him for non appearance in the proceedings under the old Foreign Exchange law.
The ED picked him up from his South Mumbai Peddar Road residence early morning. He was produced before a metropolitan magistrate where the matter is being heard. The hearing went on till after 5.30 pm. The prosecutor opposed his bail.
The Mehta family which runs the Rs 700 crore Lilavati hospital is also caught in a separate family dispute over hospital trusteeship. The charity commissioner is hearing a dispute over the trusteeship. The Mehta family which was in court too said the case dates back to 2002 and questioned why the warrant is only being issued now when no summons were ever issued earlier.
