A

t Soekarno Hatta International Airport, visitors often stop to watch a group of Javanese traditional musicians at the international departures terminal.

Foreigners openly compliment the performance, saying they have never heard anything like it.

'€œThis is a spectacular welcome for airplane passengers at the airport. I have never seen such a stage with traditional dance and music at an airport anywhere else,'€ said Alfred, who was returning home to Europe.

Another visitor, Nani praised the initiative, saying that it could boost morale among passengers.

The Javanese traditional music group, called Gegono Laras, is composed of members and employees of Angkasa Pura II airport operator.

Yudis Tiawan of Angkasa Pura II said the performance was among the operator's attempts to provide added-value while at the same time preserving local culture.

'€œWe need the world to know that this airport honors its traditional culture,'€ he said.(dic)
