Keep track of the news that’s important to you. Let's take a look at the five apps that keep you updated.

    1. Glowdart (www.glowdart.com)

Glowdart is a webpage that works really well on a second screen. It displays a continuous, scrolling feed (and automatically updates) of headlines from various news sources. You can also add your Twitter and Facebook accounts to get news from within your social network. When you see a headine that interests you, just click on it to open the link in a new tab.

    2. NewsMap (www.newsmap.jp)

Newsmap is a news aggregation service that displays headlines across different categories and countries in a colour-coded tree map. You can customise what you see according to country or category as per your choice. Headlines are also organised by popularity — more popular the news, the larger it appears in the map. Hover the mouse cursor over any box and you can see a small preview. The stories are updated automatically.

    3. Prismatic (www.getprismatic.com)

This is a magazine-style news aggregator that is easy on the eyes. The layout shows you a small article summary and relevant photos — you can continuously scroll down for more content. A free sign-up is required at first and you need to select the news categories of your choice. There are iOS apps to access news on the move. You can also add social media accounts or read them later using your Pocket account.

    4. Feedly (www.feedly.com)

Once you sign-up for a free account, you can select your preferred news sources from Feedly’s vast list across categories. Once you're done setting up, you can view news updates as a continuous list of articles on the web or on Feedly’s iOS/Android app. The interface of the app is clean and easy to read and there are no ads.

    5. Phone Apps

There are many news apps available that can keep you abreast of the latest happenings. When you want news from multiple sources, try Newshunt, Pulse, Flipboard, Zite, News Republic and News 360. The other alternatives of course are the dedicated news apps from media sources/publications. For instance, The Economic Times and Times of India have free apps across platforms.
