BANGKOK -- The launch of the ASEAN Economic Community at the end of 2015 will offer the automobile industry a unique opportunity to reduce logistics costs and create a strategic production base, Toshiyuki Shiga, vice chairman of Nissan Motor, said at a Nikkei Asian Review Forum held in Bangkok on Wednesday.
"Nissan sees ASEAN, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, as one of most important markets in world," Shiga said, "and we are approaching it aggressively." Japanese automakers hold around a 80% share of the auto market in ASEAN, where more than 3.5 million cars are sold every year.
