The tuxedo has become something of a gender-bending fashion statement. It made a huge comeback on the ramps, clad on the bodies of some of the hottest female stars in Hollywood, like Rihanna, Olivia Wilde and desi actress Sonam Kapoor.
Label Ritu Kumar launches its interpretation of the gender-bending tuxedo this Fall-Winter season.
Merging Indian aesthetic with Parisian street style, The ‘Indian Tuxedo’ by Label is all about tailored jackets, trousers, and shirts that come in both prints and solids.
“This year our collaboration with French designer, Samy Chalon, got us thinking about merging the best of both our worlds in order to produce something original. We were interested in working on structure. In particular, a structured look which, was moulded to a more Eastern silhouette. This led to a series of sharply tailored jackets, trousers and shirts, which is part of ‘The Indian Tuxedo’ range.” states Amrish Kumar, CEO, Ritu Kumar.
The collection comes with smart accents like satin lapels on the short blazers and jumpsuits, handcrafted buttons on the long jacket and satin side stripes on the trousers. Solid ruffled shirts and printed pin-tuck shirts add a dose of colour to the tailored look and can also be teamed as separates.
After a few years of study at Sciences Po, Samy Chalon jumped into the world of fashion and began his work at Dorothée Bis. A few years later, he became designer for Céline, then worked for the label Erès and finally at Revillon furs. He created his own brand seven years ago. #
