THE Proteas have named their squad sans big guns AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis for their Nelson Mandela Legacy Cup match against the Springboks at the Wanderers next Friday.

Du Plessis has been advised to take a rest by the CSA medical team to recover from a hip injury. The team will be led by Hashim Amla.

De Villiers could not be considered because of a rib injury, and will instead be the team's coach while Du Plessis will manage the side.

Injured batsman JP Duminy will join the SuperSport commentary team as an analyst during the match.

Apart from Duminy, Imran Tahir and Aaron Phangiso remain on the injured list, while Morne Morkel is not available for personal reasons.

Lonwabo Tsotsobe returns for the Proteas after a long-term injury.

"We have chosen the best available team which we believe will do justice to this occasion that goes beyond the game of cricket," said CSA selection convener Andrew Hudson.

Tickets for the match sell between R90 and R200.
