Drop plaints against sexual abuse in 16 boxes across City

Students and women who want to raise their voice against sexual abuse but want to keep their identity confidential, can do so, by dropping their complaints at any of the 16 boxes kept at various schools and colleges across the City, said Jyothi Hitnal of Breakthrough, an NGO.

This opportunity is available for all women from November 25 till December 10.
Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a protest against sexual abuse, Jyothi who is the Bangalore Coordinator, Trainer and Research Person of the NGO said Tuesday was International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women.

“So we chose this day to start our campaign and from November 25 till December 10 which is International Human Rights Day, we will keep the drop boxes inside and outside 16 City schools and colleges,” she said.

Students and women around these institutions can write and drop their complaints against sexual abuse on a college application form by keeping their identity confidential. Apart from getting the culprits nailed, the idea is to collect all these complaints and give it to the State government, to show the sad state of women.

Apart from this, Breakthrough along with other NGOs like Vimochana, Samwaad and college students will organise awareness campaigns in colleges, explaining how to combat such issues. They will also be told about the legal help they can seek and how to fight during difficulties. Anybody, aged above 16 years will be allowed to visit the campuses and be a part of the campaign and voice out their grievances.

Some of the schools and colleges that are chosen are – Home Science College, Christ College, St Joseph’s College, Vasavi College, Yeddyur College, Vinayaka High School and College, Tavarakere College and others.
