Search continues for Queensland man feared drowned

The search for a man feared drowned at a deep far north Queensland lake has entered its fourth day.

Maurice Shutter, also known as Maurice Packham, was last seen in an inflatable boat in the middle of Lake Eacham, inland from Cairns, on Sunday morning.

A search was launched after the boat was found abandoned.

Search co-ordinator Sergeant Greg Batt says specialised equipment attached to a boat will be used to scan parts of the 65 metre deep volcanic crater lake on Wednesday.

"We have no plans to stop searching," he said, adding that hope of finding the man alive was fading.

Crews on board helicopters and boats have searched the area since Sunday along with search teams who have scoured the edge of the lake which has walking track around it.

The 56-year-old man, who is from nearby Ravenshoe, was at the popular swimming spot with friends.
