A $2 million renovation is almost complete on what will become the second anchor at Lamar Station Plaza.

Newcomer Planet Fitness is renovating a former Save-A-Lot store and will join long-time tenant Casa Bonita as the flagship businesses at the former JCRS Shopping Center at 6601 W. Colfax Ave.

Doors are expected to open at the 21,000-square-foot Planet Fitness around the first week of January. It will be the third location in Lakewood.

“This is the second club we’ve opened on the west side,” said Rich Jost, Planet Fitness franchise co-owner. “With all the momentum in the corridor—the recent opening of light rail, the energy around 40 West Arts District, and Broad Street’s exciting plans for the plaza, we are looking forward to becoming a part of the West Colfax community.”

After years of uncertainty and a month-to-month lease, Casa Bonita recently signed a long-term lease with new shopping center owners Broad Street Realty to keep the 50,000-square-foot restaurant and entertainment center in place.

Broadstreet has begun the first phase of improvements to the run-down strip mall, including new lighting, a renovated parking lot with landscape islands, enhanced pedestrian pathways and banners.

Planet Fitness is offering membership pre-sales for the Lamar Station Plaza location now until the grand opening. Potential members can sign up at the pre-sale office at 6601 W. Colfax Ave. for $1 and then $10 per month. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call (303) 238 – 5053.
