Patiala police arrest 7 robbers who 'killed' kin of MLA Bains 3 years ago

Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested criminals involved in the murder of Atamnagar MLA Simarjit Singh Bains's father-in-law who was killed by unknown assailants at his home around three years ago.

PATIALA: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested criminals involved in the murder of Atamnagar MLA Simarjit Singh Bains's father-in-law who was killed by unknown assailants at his home around three years ago. Simrajit's father-in-law Sohan Singh was allegedly killed by robbers on December 23, 2011 night at his home in Nurpur Bet village of Ludhaina district.
Patiala senior superintendent of police Hardial Singh Mann said in a press conference at Rajpura that police had arrested 7 accused - Guddu Nath, Suraj, Dhola, Chand, Sewak, Pilla and Rohit - who confessed that on the night of December 23, 2011, their gang had targeted the house of Sohan who was alone.

"They inured Sohan, as a result of which he died. Thereafter they looted gold and silver ornaments from his house," Mann said, adding that an FIR had already been registered in the case at Ladowal police station of Ludhiana. He said police had also recovered two .315 bore pistols along with 6 live cartridges from the accused. The Patiala SSP added that the accused had confessed to their involvement in 53 cases of robbery in various districts of Punjab. "We have recovered jewellery worth Rs 45 lakh from the accused, which will be returned to the owners," he added.
