MUMBAI:
Constable Arun Jadhav, the only survivor in a team of six who were killed by
Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab and his accomplice at
Cama Lane, said on the sixth anniversary of
26/11 that memories of the fateful night still haunt him. He said he has nightmares of the entire sequence of events, where he is helpless, with bullet injuries.
A day before the anniversary, Jadhav, who has been with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for two years, was transferred to the city crime branch.
Jadhav is now a sub-inspector as he cleared the state police department exam two years back, but is awaiting a posting, as around 400 are in the queue before him.
A colleague said Jadhav deserved to become a sub-inspector and the government should consider his case on priority. “Kasab fired three shots at Jadhav, but he pretended to be dead under three other bodies in the police vehicle, and later he alerted the control room. Based on his information, police teams chased Kasab and alerted a patrol team at Chowpatty, where constable Tukaram Ombale and others overpowered Kasab and his associate,” his colleague said. He said a promotion will send a strong message to the police force that the government cares about those who risk their lives for the country.
“If I had a machine gun, I would have sprayed bullets on the two terrorists,” he said.
Jadhav said it was unfortunate that the Pakistanis who had hatched the conspiracy were yet to be punished.
