Christmas-present thieves foiled in Santa Clara

By

Santa Clara police have arrested five suspects who allegedly tried to steal a family’s video game console from under their Christmas tree, authorities said.

The would-be Grinches broke into a home Wednesday just after 10 p.m. on the 2200 block of Lenox Place. The family, a couple and their daughter, were upstairs, police said.

The father heard noises, investigated and found a man unhooking a game console from under a lit Christmas tree and another man standing guard in the doorway, police said.

The dad hollered at the two men and called police as the intruders took off running, hopped into a car and sped away, police said.

An officer who was in the area spotted the suspects packed into a car with another man and two teenagers, police said.

Police searched the vehicle and found some of the homeowner’s belongings. All five suspects were arrested. Authorities did not immediately name them or list booking charges.
