Palike targets high-value tax defaulters

BENGALURU: Bagmane Tech Park Pvt Ltd in New Thippasandra ward near C V Raman Nagar paid property tax of Rs 11.46 crore on Tuesday which had been pending since the last financial year. Officials from the software park handed over three cheques to mayor Shanthakumari and a team of BBMP corporators who went on an inspection drive to collect pending dues from high-value tax defaulters.
The mayor said the park couldn't pay taxes during the previous financial year as there was confusion about which BBMP zone it came under. Anand, chairman, standing committee on taxation and finance, said the civic body had set a deadline of December 15 for high-value tax defaulters, failing which necessary action would be initiated.
BBMP estimated that 30 companies in the city have property tax dues over Rs 1 crore. The total tax due from these companies adds up to Rs 93.12 crore and notices have been issued to these companies. Mahadevapura zone tops the list of such companies as total dues in its jurisdiction are Rs 71.64 crore. The defaulters include industry units, hospitals, educational institutions and malls.
