DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Tuesday asked Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam to explain in the coming Assembly session whether orders had been issued for implementation of announcements made suo motu by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
“She made as many as 128 announcements under Section 110 of the Assembly Rules. Now the people want to know whether these announcements remain on paper or orders have been issued for their implementation with financial allocation,” he said, addressing a Mupperum Vizha organised by the party in Chennai.
Mr. Stalin, also the Legislative party leader, wondered if Mr. Panneerselvam, who continued to function from his old office even after he was made the Chief Minister, would occupy the seat of the Chief Minister in the Assembly or would prefer to sit in his old seat.
“When Ms. Jayalalithaa was in power, the opposition members were not allowed to raise any issue and those who criticised the government were removed from the House. Now we hope Mr. Panneerselvam will allow us to express our views. But we do not know whether he will sit in the Chief Minister’s chair,” he said.
At the function, Mr. Stalin distributed welfare measures to the tune of Rs. 35 lakh.
