Geoff Berkshire has joined Variety‘s staff as associate editor, features in the Los Angeles office.

He’ll lend his expertise to Variety‘s television coverage by writing and editing feature stories, as well as continuing to review films and cover festivals. He’ll also be instrumental in awards season coverage.

He has been a freelance film and television critic for Variety since 2010, and contributed to coverage of the Sundance film fest, Emmys and Golden Globes.

Berkshire has written for the Los Angeles Times, Yahoo! Movies, HitFix, Paste, NBCNews.com, the Daily Beast, Red Bulletin, Movieline’s Hollywood Life and Premiere, among other outlets. He is also a member of the Los Angeles Film Critics Assn., and spent six years as the national entertainment editor and film critic for Tribune and Gannett’s joint venture Metromix.
