The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday further extended the stay on hanging of the Nithari serial killer Surinder Koli till December 1. Earlier on October 31 while hearing a PIL on the matter, the court had stayed his hanging till November 25.
The court is hearing a petition filed by the NGO, People’s Union for Democratic Rights (PUDR), challenging the delay in deciding the mercy petition of Koli.
PUDR wants relief for Koli quoting a Supreme Court ruling that long delay in deciding on a mercy plea could be a valid reason to commute capital punishment to life imprisonment.
