Chauranga, a major portion of which was shot in Bengal, is now an official selection at Dubai International Film Festival. The Arpita starrer, which was adjudged the best film at MAMI and won the Golden Gateway of India award, features a handful of actors from the Bengali film industry, apart from Sanjay Suri.

Curiously, the film which is currently doing the rounds of the festival circuit was booed out of Bengal after the units run-in with the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India. Following the fracas, the team had to move to Odisha, where similar sets were recreated like that in the original location, Bolpur. Director Bikas Ranjan Mishra and team, however, have clearly moved on. About the films tryst with festivals, Arpita, who is currently shooting for Onirs Shab, says, This is my first national project and the best part is that its currently making waves at festivals. The only reason I came on board this film was Onir, who is helming the production along with Sanjay. Though I will not be travelling to Dubai, I am keeping my fingers crossed. Getting selected is one thing, winning quite another. But when I first heard the script, I knew it will make a splash in the festival circuit.
In the film, Arpita plays the wife of a zamindar and sports a completely deglam look. Chauranga is about 14-year-old Dalit boys infatuation with an older girl. Says Onir, Its a very prestigious festival and we are all very excited. Sanjay and I will be leaving for Dubai on December 14. The film stars Tannishtha Chatterjee, Swatilekha Sengupta, Dhritiman Chatterjee, Ena Saha, Soham Maitra and Riddhi Sen in key roles.
