Veteran actor Anupam Kher also said he missed tasting the delicious food at Sarafa on his recent visit
Anupam Kher, who visited Indore recently for a promotional trip, said, “Indore is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. And I think one of the reasons behind it has to be the city’s infrastructure.” Telling us about what else he liked here, Anupam said, “I like the food of Indore.
I wish I could go to Sarafa but could not get the time. Also, I’d heard ki wahan bheed bhi bahut ho jaati hai. So to avoid any sort of mismanagement, I postponed it till my next Indore trip. I have tasted everything here – matar ki sabzi-poori and of course, poha-jalebi! If I have to describe Indore in one word, it would be vibrant.”

The actor had a word of praise for the neighbouring city Bhopal too. He said, “I can say the same thing about Bhopal too. In fact, Bhopal looks so beautiful in the rainy season that it almost looks like a hill station. I must say, the whole of Madhya Pradesh is well-managed and has good infrastructure.” The actor has been part of both, critically-acclaimed films as well as commercially successful cinema, in his career. When asked to pick between the two, Kher said, “It is a very subjective question. I have done both kinds of movies and it is very difficult to answer this question. Directors today mix both kinds of genres beautifully in a single film. At the end of the day, cinema is primarily for entertainment, and in the process, if it can bring about social change, it’s even better. So, I would pick any movie which entertains people.” Talking about how the entertainment industry has evolved over the years, Anupam said, “I think now, you can no longer bag a role or become an actor just because you look good. Talent and proper training definitely help one grow in the field.”
Attributing his own success to his NSD (National School Of Drama) education, the actor said, “I’ve been in the industry for over 30 years, and I do think that somewhere it’s because of NSD. I believe, it makes you confident – whether you pursue acting or direction” The actor has acted in Bollywood and Hollywood projects as well. Talking about the difference between the two, Anupam said, “There is no difference in talent. The only difference is in approach. Their approach is slightly more professional. But we are also reaching for that level. Professionalism has become important in Bollywood too, but it will take some time. We need more and better writers in Bollywood. As there, they have a brilliant team of writers. Also, I think Oscar is still the benchmark for a good movie. They have maintained their credibility, unlike Indian award functions where the winner already knows that he is getting the award. Therefore, we often see that the winner is present but the nominees are not.” On being asked what he wants to do next, Anupam said, “There are plenty of things to do. I want to work for children, write another book, I want to direct a film. When a man is in his early fifties, he actually realizes what he is. Either he likes himself or dislikes himself. I like myself for what I have done in my life. So I want to do a lot of things. There is still scope of learning so many things. But I really don’t want to join politics like Kirron (Kher, his wife). I have no such inclination.”
