VARANASI: A named FIR was lodged with Lanka police against former chief proctor of BHU A K Joshi under Section 120b of IPC for criminal conspiracy on Sunday night.
The Lanka police said that a case was lodged against Joshi for criminal conspiracy. In preliminary investigation, police allegedly found involvement of Joshi in instigating students for creating trouble.
Joshi refused to comment on the issue.
Joshi resigned from his post when the BHU campus was in the grip of violence for two days on November 20 and 21. Scores of students were injured. More than 100 were arrested and sent to jail. Violence broke out on November 20 in protest against the election of Students' Council. Police used force to bring the situation under control and several students sustained injuries. On November 21, the campus witnessed violence again when inmates of Birla and Brocha hostels clashed over the issue of election. Brick-batting between the two groups continued for nearly four hours till the arrival of police. The university proctorial staff remained invisible from the scene during the clash. Later, police conducted search drives in the hostel and arrested over 100 students.
