RAIPUR: Craze to register more ‘likes’ on Facebook claimed life of 13-year-old Ketan Poddar of Bilaspur who, in an attempt to pose on top of goods train to click a selfie, accidentally touched an overhead live wire.
A student of Class IX of St. Francis School, Ketan, was a resident of Vaishali Nagar in Bilaspur district. His father Sanjay Poddar works as loco-pilot in Railways.
Ketan had gone to Uslapur sub-station on Sunday evening along with his friends when the incident took place.
According to his friends’ statement to police, Ketan had uploaded a related profile picture on Facebook sitting on the same train earlier which had got many likes and comments.
According to his Facebook profile, Ketan received 412 likes and more than 140 comments for the picture he wished to pose better.
Station house officer SL Navratna said Ketan, son of Sanjay Poddar left home with his friend Rishi to finish a project work and was later joined by three other friends, who headed for Uslapur station.
After clicking many pictures on goods train, Ketan climbed on top and when he raised hands to pose, an overhead live wire came in contact due which he was electrocuted on the spot.
Shocked with incident, his friends didn’t report the matter to anyone, rather went back homes. His family searched for him when he didn’t return till late and his death came to light when friends were inquired.
Police recovered Ketan’s body after three hours of incident and further probe was on.
