NEW DELHI: Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday issued instructions to commissioner of police, Delhi chief secretary and municipal commissioners of civic bodies to take strict action against those indulging in defacement of public property.
“Jung had also issued a public appeal to this effect on November 23 and 24 in which he had urged the citizens to actively participate in the “Swachh Bharat Mission” launched by Prime Minister,” a LG House statement said.

Defacement of public property is a criminal offence under Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act 2007. The offence is punishable by law with imprisonment up to one year or fine of Rs 50,000 or both.
“There will be zero tolerance towards those trying to deface public property,” Jung said.
