Gerry Adams claims list of alleged sex abusers posted in letter box

Mr Adams tonight said that the list of alleged offenders has been handed to gardai by Sinn Fein's designated child protection officer.

The Louth TD said that he expects gardai to contact him about the matter with officers expected to seek permission to analyse any CCTV camera that may be present at the property, located in Norfolk Parade off the Glen Road.

Speaking to Tommie Gorman on RTE News, Mr Adams said the list of names was left in his letter box.

"It came to me anonymously. It was left in my letter box at home in Belfast. We have a national child protection officer, a designated person, and that's the person who brings it forward on our behalf," he said.

"But I fully expect An Garda Siochana to be in touch with me," he added.

Mr Adams has been strongly criticised over his party's handling of the Mairia Cahill affair. Ms Cahill is the young mother who went public with her ordeal of being raped at the hands of a suspected IRA figure when she was just 16.

The Belfast woman was then subjected to an internal IRA kangaroo court. Her abuse, and that of potentially dozens of other victims, was allegedly covered up by Sinn Fein.

It emerged tonight that gardai are investigating the reports that more than 30 sex offenders are living south of the border.
