Tony Award-winning Broadway star Victoria Clark has landed a surprising new role on the upcoming season of "Homeland." The "Sister Act" and "Cinderella" star has reportedly signed on to appear as the mother of Claire Danes' character Carrie Mathison.

Thus far there is no word on the context in which Carrie's mother will appear on the show. Mathison's father, Frank, played by James Rebhorn, previously held a role on the show for three seasons. Rebhorn's character was phased out following the actor's death in March.

The show's fourth season starts with Mathison being reassigned as a station chief at a CIA base in Afghanistan. The show, which airs on Showtime in the U.S. and Channel 4 in the U.K., has already been green lit for a fifth season.
